The river, beginning in Saskatchewan, winding its way through north-central North Dakota and finally returning to Canada, is known by multiple names, but it is usually referred to as the Mouse River. Do not let the name fool you; while a mouse may be small, the Mouse River is a force to be reckoned with. Containing it in its banks has been the work of the Souris River Joint Board and its partners for 14 years; this flood protection is essential in Minot and the surrounding region. Join us for a tour of this important flood protection project. The tour will travel to Lake Darling to view the dams and reservoirs on the U.S. side of the Mouse River. Next travel to Burlington where flood control has been completed and the city is completely protected from 500-year flood levels. We will then travel through the Minot flood system getting to see some of the largest pump stations within the state and multiple phases of flood protection, some completed and some in construction. This is a tour you do not want to miss! This tour begins and ends in Minot.\nThe public is invited to attend the tour, which costs $30 per person, and includes transportation, informational materials, meals, refreshments and a one-year subscription to the North Dakota Water magazine.\nRegistration is required for this tour. For questions or to register, contact Julie Ellingson ( mailto:jellingson@ndwater.net ) or call 701-223-8332.\nSmall But Mighty Tour Agenda\n2024 Water Tours Brochure\nThe North Dakota Water Education Foundation would like to thank this year’s tour sponsors.
